Someting I was thinking about today...

Can something juvenile also be for mature audiences?

Sleep Well When You Get There

New Free EP from Monument Monument, a band straight out of Mo-Town. Not sure how I never heard of them before now, but better late than never, I guess.

Visit http://www.monumentmonument.com for low-res (120 kbps) and hi-res (320 kbps) downloads.

For fans of Mae, Copeland, and Jimmy Eat World.

The Wake n' Bacon

Michael Scott: I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me. And since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman Grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill, I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious, it's good for me. It's the perfect way to start the day. Today I got up, I stepped onto the grill and it clamped down on my foot... that's it. I don't see what's so hard to believe about that.

Anyone like mash-ups as much as me? Check out http://audiotuts.com/resources/240-free-albums-tracks-and-links-for-music-mashup-lovers/ for a bunch of free stuff.
In the same week that New York State has banned cigarette smoking at all addiction recovery centers (impacting more than 1,550 programs), Rep. Barney Frank discusses legalizing marijuana. A bit ironic, no?

Spreeder

I was browsing Digg at work yesterday and came across a pretty nifty site.

Basically you copy and paste any text you want to speed read, and it flashes the words on your screen. They might flash pretty quickly, but I was surprised at the level of comprehension. I guess this is the kinda stuff they teach you in speed reading classes.

So I stopped in Borders after work yesterday and noticed an endcap labeled something along the lines of, "The AARP Recommends..." with probably 7 or 8 books, one of which was about how to deal with aging parents or something like that.

I own 1 of the books on that endcap, and am interested in another. Haha, I wonder what that says about me...

Pandora

Sorry, now that I don't talk about cancer, I just talk about stuff I like. It's far less exciting. I wonder if I'm really just writing to myself at this point.

Anyways, since I've started getting a little more comfortable in my new office environment, I've wanted to listen to music quietly at my desk during the day without isolating myself with headphones. Also, because we use PC's at work, I can't plug my iPod in to the computer, so my only solution is to find tunes some other way. Thankfully, Pandora is there to save the (work)day.

When I was first introduced to the site, it was still in its infancy and apparently hadn't secured the rights to use big name acts, but that's totally changed. At the beginning, when you'd create a radio station around your favorite band or song, the songs they recommended were by bands you'd never heard of (and probably never wanted to hear in the first place). Now they do a great job of surprising even a longtime music fan like myself with cool bands I've never heard of.

Who watches the watchmen?

Most people who know me know I tend to be a pretty big shoe geek sometimes. These are next on my wishlist.

Army of A**holes

I'm watching a pretty incredible documentary called Soldiers in the Army of God, and the violent measures that anti-abortionist hypocrites go through to prove their point is absolutely astounding. Their basic argument seems to be that abortion is a form of murder that directly goes against God's will, and that therefor, doctors performing these procedures are "playing God". As a result, these wackos say that they feel like God has told them to kill, injure, burn, and bomb. Confused? So am I.

Any chance that The Dark Knight won't be the highest opening box office weekend ever? I doubt it.

Got home yesterday from spending a great week Up North reading, spending time on the beach and on the boat, and golfing. I've definitely caught the golf bug and got a net for the backyard to hit balls into. Too bad I have nowhere to play around here.

I don't think I posted this yet, but I'm starting a new internship next week for a pretty big ad agency here in Detroit. It's not exactly what I saw myself doing after I graduated college, but I'm pretty excited about it, and it should give me some awesome insight and experience into the whole advertising/marketing world. I'll keep ya posted.
