What I'm Up To...

Having friends in the business school here has given me a totally unrealistic view of what to expect in terms of jobs. I'm so jealous of all those people who already know what they're doing after college and are making $50,000+ per year.

Good read

This whole Heath Ledger thing is so crazy and unbelievable. I'm still in shock.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/105580
So as is usually the case every 3 weeks for the first few days after chemo (I had my 5th cycle of chemo yesterday. 1 to go!!!), I'm in a super hyper mood right now from the high levels of prednisone I'm on. It's weird because it feels like a mix of being really focused and really ADD. I sent out a bunch of emails today about job stuff, but at the same time, it's also taking me an incredibly long time to start an easy 750-word response paper about shopping that's due tomorrow. School just feels like it's getting in the way, really. I'm taking 12 credits of classes that really don't matter, and I only have class from 1-4 Monday thru Thursday.

Good news is that the administration here finally realized the idiocy of their ways in having Spring Commencement at EMU and announced that it's being moved back to campus. Hell yeah. I don't know what they were thinking. I'm still holding out for it to be at the Big House, but I'll settle for anything at this point. I'm happy enough that it won't be in Ypsi.
Having my computer in the shop is seriously cramping my style in terms of job searching. Hopefully the good people at Apple get my baby back to me soon. I'm kinda freaking out about this whole job thing, but on the bright side, I applied to 2 different positions yesterday, one of which is in LA. I previously thought that most of the music industry was located in New York, but I'm seeing more and more things being located out West. That could definitely be cool. I really just want to get all this stuff out of the way.

Honey Bunches of Oats

My days at the hospital somehow always manage to end up with something bad happening when I get home. Last week after spending the day in the ER, I get home to realize I locked myself out of my bedroom. Yesterday was a long day at the hospital for PT and CT scans, and after getting home and looking forward to spending a quiet night at home, I accidentally spilled a bowl of cereal allllllll over my laptop, frying it. Son of a B. After letting it dry over night, it still won't turn on, and I think I'm shit out of luck. I have an appointment at the Apple store later tonight, but I'm not too hopeful.

Holy crap, Heath Ledger was just found dead in his Manhattan apartment. He was a great actor, and his role as the Joker in the upcoming Dark Knight looks incredible. RIP...

Goddamn Fever

Spending most of the day the University of Michigan ER is not exactly how I planned to spend my Thursday, but alas, some things are out of my control. As I mentioned a few days ago, I was starting to come down with a cold, and it came to a head yesterday when I woke up sweating like crazy, while also shaking and feeling achy. Standard fever symptoms, and a quick check of my temperature revealed I had a fever of 101.4. Not fun. Because I'm heavily immuno-suppressed due to all the drugs pumped into my body, my body pretty much sucks at life and fighting things off and my doctors have warned me about fevers. After calling my doctor's office, hoping to be able to just get a quick blood test or something at UHS, they told me I had to go to the ER to get cultures and whatnot. Lame.

Luckily, it wasn't busy at all, and I was able to get into a room in the ER within about 15 minutes. When they checked my temp within about 2 minutes of getting there, it had gone back to normal, which was win/lose. The rest of the day was spent lying in a hospital bed, with a chest X-Ray and kidney ultrasound thrown in there for good measure. Pretty boring, and they eventually sent me home around 5-ish feeling better than I had that morning, but still feeling kinda crappy.

Obviously looking forward to getting home and watching Lost in bed, I was bummed to realize that I had locked myself out of my bedroom. 1 trip to the hardware store, 2 trips to ADPhi, and 2 ladders later, I was finally home. As if my day couldn't get any worse, I spilled a huuuuuuuuge tub of chicken noodle soup all over my bed. Shit's weak. I still have a runny nose and a cough, but that's about it.

Cloverfield

So my streak of seeing awesome movies in the theaters continues. First Charlie Wilson's War, then Juno, now Cloverfield. Definitely one of the most exhilarating, intense, and thrilling movie experiences of my life. I can't recommend it enough. Check it out starting Friday.

Stuff

I think I'm getting sick. It's one of those things where I woke up yesterday morning feeling a little "off" and I knew it was coming. I felt pretty crappy when I woke up this morning, but oh well. It's just one of those winter colds we all have to deal with. I've been pounding water and need to pick up some tea on the way to class today.

Chris and I are seeing a special prescreening of Cloverfield tonight. I remember hearing about this movie while I was in NYC last summer, and the final product looks pretty awesome. JJ Abrams, one of the guys behind Lost, is the executive producer, so I have high hopes. I'll post an update with what I think.

Speaking of Lost, Caitlin and I have been catching up on all 3 Seasons of the show. She's never seen it before, but I'm watching everything for the second time. It's become our nightly ritual. Good times.

Senioritis is definitely starting to sink in. Blah.

You're never as young as you are today.

I've never felt as old either.

The new season of Lost looks awesome. I really need to catch up. I think I'm about a season behind.

I also really hope Jon Lullo releases a solo album. I was bummed when Down To Earth Approach broke up, but this might make up for it...

Way to go, Mary Sue

The students are what make the University of Michigan what it is, not corporate suites and wider seats. I can't believe this.

4 down, 2 to go

My 4th round of chemo was yesterday. I rocked that shit. Only 2 left...

Caitlin and I saw Juno a couple nights ago, and it was probably the best movie I've seen in a loooooong time (I think I said that about Charlie Wilson's War too, but whatev. This was better). Awesome awesome movie. Kinda in the same vein as Garden State and Little Miss Sunshine- darkly funny, but also with heart. Definitely check it out if you like good movies and not crappy ones. Rainn Wilson had an amazing cameo too.

"I'm like a big kid, but with a boatload of money and the best booze" - one of my professors

I can't believe my last semester of college is starting already. Thursday was the first day of classes, and amid a bunch of confusion over how many credits I need, I'm still ironing out my schedule. Luckily all my requirements are filled, so I can pretty much take whatever I want. Right now I'm registered for 15 credits, so I'll probably be dropping a class in the next week or so. Most of my classes seem pretty cool, so I have no idea which class to get rid of.

Caitlin and I saw the Lion King broadway show on Wednesday, and it was pretty effing sweet. I loved that movie growing up and had fun remembering scenes from the movie. The music is amazing as well. I need to go out and pick up the soundtrack, I think.

My 4th (I think) cycle of chemo is on Monday. Luckily none of the doses have hit me particularly hard, so I'm hoping to continue that trend. Just a couple hours in a chair getting the infusion, then on with life and classes and whatnot.

I'm still going through my huuuuuuge playlist (877 songs!) of all the music that came out in 2007, so it might take me a couple more days to come up with my Best of 2007 list. It was definitely a good year for music.

I realize this post is kinda rambling/boring/incoherent/not grammatically correct. Forgive me.

Obligatory New Years post

Happy New Years Everyone! I hope everyone had a fun and safe night last night; I know I did. I had a great time partying in East Lansing with Caitlin and some of the guys, although I will never trust a bar that solely uses one of those fountain gun thingies, even for liquor/mixed drinks. Total weak sauce. At least let me see you pouring drinks from a bottle, dammit.

Nice to see the Wolverines get a big win today. LLoyd's had a great run, so it was nice to see him win his last game (and the first bowl win since I've been a student). It'll be interesting to see what Rodriguez will be able to do in the coming years.

I'm going to be posting a list of my favorite stuff from the past year in music, so be patient. I'm going back to Ann Arbor tomorrow and seeing the Lion King play tomorrow night, so it might be a few days.

Rock on young savior, don't give up your hopes.
